Second Montalvocongressman of Peru Libre, presented on November 18, 2022 a bill that sought that members of the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP) be able to access a new withdrawal of two Tax Units (UIT), which is equivalent to 9,900 soles. In addition to this, the possibility that affiliates could withdraw from this pension system voluntarily was also raised. It is important to remember that this was done as an aid to the public in the context of COVID-19.
In what situations could affiliates withdraw part of their funds?
The parliamentarian’s proposal is currently in the Economy Commission of the Congress of the republic, where it will be debated and put to a vote. If approved, it would enter into force 90 days after its publication in the official newspaper El Peruano.
The legislative initiative indicates that the money would be delivered in two installments of 1 UIT each, in a period of 30 calendar days.
“The first withdrawal will be for the value of one UIT 30 days after the presentation of the application to the AFPwhich manages the affiliate funds through a bank,” the document states.
Added to it, The option to disaffiliate from the AFP was also offered “so that the money in your fund is deposited in a bank of your choice for a fixed term.”for a period of not less than two years, with a higher interest rate on their contributions, so that the member, after the aforementioned period, can choose what actions to take on his money, covering his future pensioner”.
Despite this, sources Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) stated that the bill does not have “any technical support”, and that, due to this, other similar initiatives have already been archived in the Legislative Economic Commission.
