The works are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2023. The goal is to improve safety and the customer experience.
Renfe has started the works so that seven stations in Gipuzkoa have intelligent video surveillance equipment. In this way, the commuter train stations of Andoain, Beasain, Gros, Hernani-Centro, Lezo-Renteria, Ordizia and Tolosa will be monitored by intelligent systems. The works are estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2023.
This new system anonymously and automatically collects and processes thousands of data through the CCTV system of each station and integrates them into a single control panel. The goal is to improve security and customer experience, always from strict compliance with data protection regulations.
The company has already installed the first intelligent video surveillance equipment in more than 60 CercanÃas stations throughout Spain, which is the first step for the complete digitization of the security systems of 483 CercanÃas stations, within the project called ‘Renfe Smart Security Station’ (RS3), which should be completed in 2024.
During this time, more than 5,000 analog security cameras will be replaced by IP cameras, which will allow the information collected through the CCTV system to be shared in an integrated video analytics system.
System Benefits
Thanks to this intelligent security system, it will be possible to know what is happening in the stations in real time. For example, through the analysis of the influx, if necessary, more personnel can be directed to the stations that need it at all times. Security-related incidents such as people and objects falling onto the tracks, fires, acts of vandalism or access fraud can also be automatically detected.
