As a result of the joint work of the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries (MPCEIP), the private sector, civil society, international cooperation, and the support of the Consortium of Provincial Autonomous Governments of Ecuador (Congope), it was presented in Quito , the Agroindustries with Value strategy, which seeks to promote agroindustrial companies towards an inclusive and sustainable model, which combines the integration of the value chain, rural development, improvement in productive efficiency and production with quality and competitiveness.
Dialogues between the Government and the private sector will focus on nine productive tables that will work with the methodology of the Inter-American Development Bank
During the launch, where the Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries, Julio José Prado; the executive director of the Congope, Isabel Proaño, and business representatives, it was highlighted that the new strategy is aimed at a sector that represents 15% of GDP and generates 2.8 million jobs and that it was built with a diagnosis and references of regional experiences of Peru, Chile and Brazil.

Agroindustries with Value is based on three main axes: Sustainable productive integration; Competitive territorial development; and, Favorable environment; each of them will have a direct impact on the search for competitive improvement based on the efficient use of resources, on territorial decentralization through public and private investment to transform comparative advantages into competitive advantages and promote conditions for the sustainable development of agribusiness.
Prado highlighted the importance of having an agro-industrial strategy that gives greater value to production.

“Ecuador has great advantages and competitive opportunities that we have to take advantage of. This strategy is born from the demand and the challenges of the post-pandemic market, and there we have several elements: improving productivity; professionalize agribusiness; promote natural advantages and make them sustainable and competitive in the long term”, said the minister.
For her part, the executive director of the Congope, Isabel Proaño, stated that the challenge is to incorporate the different actors of the national government, mayors, prefectures and parish councils; private sector and academia, in order to promote a new generation of producers and where specialized production with innovation and added value is prioritized. Likewise, access certifications, which will guarantee sustainable and equitable development.
