Accumulated Peruvian exports to September exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 18%

From January to September of this year, Peruvian exports achieved a growth of 42% compared to the same period of 2020, thus adding a total of 39,878 million dollars, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

This amount is 18% higher than that observed in 2019, adds the portfolio led by Roberto Sánchez, who added that the rebound in September is due to higher shipments of traditional (+ 45.5%) and non-traditional (+ 34%) goods. ).

“All goods export sectors increased their shipments abroad without exception,” said the minister, including among them: jewelry (+ 221%), metallurgy (+ 93%), textiles (+ 75%), fishing (+48 % :), mining (+ 47%), chemical (+ 31%), and agriculture (+ 19.1%).

“Peruvian shipments to the world have been driven by higher prices at the international level and exported volumes. In the case of minerals, which are 61% of what is exported, it has grown by 47% until September, due to the higher prices of products such as copper, zinc and tin, “he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that In the case of agro-exports, which is 16% of total exports, there is a 19% increase thanks to higher volumes of fruit shipments. Along these lines, avocados grew 45% (1,089 million dollars) due to the 36% increase in the volume exported, while fresh blueberries did so by 39% (610 million) due to an increase of 42% in the volume shipped. .

Sánchez said that in the first nine months of this year the interior regions of the country continue to show their resilience and have managed to increase their shipments abroad, and these are: Huancavelica (+ 114%), Ucayali (+ 96%), Madre de God (+ 93%), Apurímac (+ 89%), Puno (+ 83%), Loreto (+ 79%), Ica (+ 62%), Arequipa (+ 56%), Tacna (+ 49%), Cusco (+ 48%), Lambayeque (+ 43%), Ayacucho (+ 36%), Amazonas (+ 34%), La Libertad (+ 30%), Ancash (+ 27%), Piura (+ 19%), Moquegua (+ 17%), Tumbes (+ 12%), Junín (+ 9%) and San Martín (+ 8%).

It also specified that Peruvian foreign trade reached 73,867 million dollars between January and September (+ 42.4%), driven by higher trade with Asian countries (47.2% of total trade), such as China, Arabia, India, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, among others.

“Asian countries are the main markets for products from sectors such as fishing and mining, and to a lesser extent for agriculture and textiles. With the recent entry into force of the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty (CPTPP), the conditions and tariff benefits have been improved so that more Peruvian companies, especially MSMEs, can access these markets and position Peruvian products in this region “, Sanchez said.

Finally, the official emphasized that trade with the United States rose 28% due to higher imports (+ 43%) of diesel (+ 63%) and yellow corn (+ 43%). In South America, Peru increased its trade with Brazil (+ 63%) due to higher sales of phosphate and cathodes, as well as higher purchases of crude oil and vehicles. Similarly, trade with Bolivia (+ 58%) and Ecuador (+ 58%) grew notably due to higher imports of soybeans and oil, respectively.

In addition, the negotiations with the countries of the Pacific Alliance increased 30%, highlighting the greater trade with Chile (+ 37%) and Mexico (+ 28%)
