Fuel distributors insist on being heard by the Government

Manta, MANABI

Several representatives of the National Chamber of Distributors of petroleum derivatives were in Manta this Friday, supporting a symbolic access to the Barbasquillo fuel supply terminal, west of this port city.

This is one of the measures to attract the attention of the Government and thus have at least two orders that can be accepted in their favor, said Ivo Rosero, president of the National Chamber of distributors of petroleum products in the country.

Those requests are the restitution of an additional five cents on the dollar to the profit margin granted in October 2019, but that incentive was eliminated after the mobilization of indigenous organizations, an adjustment that was achieved after several months of dialogues.

But also that the State assume the charge of fuel transportation payment as it is done in the province of Morona Santiago. If these requests do not materialize, the situation of the gas station owners will become critical, such as now that close to 50% of the gas stations, according to Rosero, are working below the break-even point.

In the worst case, says the leader, some distributors would already choose to close gas stations as has already happened in some locations in Ecuador.

“It is important that citizens know that the Government already benefits from 1,755 million dollars a year due to the increase in the price of fuel, and our request is only 6% of that, and the Executive has not wanted to share it,” Rosero said. .

In ManabĂ, according to Julio Hidalgo, president of the Association of Fuel Distributors of this province, Calceta and San Clemente gas stations have already closed their service due to the lack of liquidity on the part of the owners, due to the fact that there is no profit performance given the low profit margin that fuel distributors far from the Barbasquillo station in Manta have, even more so, which must pay more for each gallon transported.

“We will continue with these measures because we hope that the government listens to us, they know about our reality,” Hidalgo said. Gas station managers expect the government to rule in the coming days on their requests. (YO)
