Indecopi sanctions Nestlé because the “Maggi Cubito de Carne” does not contain meat

Indecopi fined nestle after determining that your product “Maggi Meat Cube 100mg” is not made of meat.

It is worth clarifying that this complaint was filed by the Association of Consumers and Users of Ancash – Acurea in mid-January of last year before the Commission for the Control of Unfair Competition of the indecopi.

In this sense, the Technical Secretariat of this room admitted the complaint in February and accused nestle the alleged commission of acts of deception towards the consumer by disseminating the Maggi meat cube with an image of a caricatured bovine and pieces of meat.

Thus, Indecopi recently notified the parties that a fine of 35.94 UIT will be imposed on Nestlé, equivalent to S/ 173,448.

Too Nestlé is urged not to broadcast advertising for Maggi Cubito de Carne in which it is implied that it is made from meat.

Nestlé: “The reasonable consumer would realize that the cube does not have meat”

Nestle Peru argued that the appearance of a caricatured bovine and a plate with pieces of meat in Cubito Maggi de Carne does not convey the advertising message that the product has meat as its main ingredient, but that the product is a flavoring.

“A reasonable consumer would not think that such a small cube contains meat”they specified.
