On November 4, the president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, explained during the debate on the investiture of trust that took place in Congress that the tax reform does not seek to affect the general population, nor does it seek to affect the middle class. On the contrary, this measure would focus on people who are able to pay higher taxes.
In addition, the chief of staff explained that the tax reform will seek to equitably distribute the tax burdens that already exist.
“The tax reform is based on a situation of legitimacy, because what we seek is to generate better conditions of equity, transparency, and better distribute the tax burdens that we have,” announced Vásquez in his presentation during the debate for the vote of confidence.
In the same way, he explained that what is collected with said reform will be exclusively used to close social gaps through investments in education, health, as well as access to water, connectivity and agrarian reform.
Mirtha Vásquez also explained that under no circumstances will this reform seek to affect a large part of the population, nor the middle class, as was thought. This measure will focus on those with broad purchasing power.
“We do not want this to mean an effect on the majority of the population, not even the middle class, but rather that those with greater capacities can generate some more taxes”, sentenced the premier in Congress.
