The company Latam Airlines Peru reported that, after the inspection carried out on the runway of the Jaén (Cajamarca) airport, it has been necessary to temporarily cancel its operations in this city (takeoff or landing) between Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 January as the optimal minimum conditions for the safe development of air operations could not be verified, they pointed out.
“We urge the authority and the concessionaire of the Corporación Peruana de Aeropuertos y Aviación Comercial airport to take corrective measures to limit the time required for corrective maintenance work on the runway,” they stated in a statement.
As recalled, between June and September of last year, the Jaen airport was seriously affected by the same situation, as the runway needed urgent maintenance due to holes in it.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through social networks, He specified that the closure of the airport is due to maintenance work, since “weather factors have affected the runway.”
Given this situation, the company has defined that passengers with affected flights have the flexibilities for changes and/or returns without any type of penalty. To do this, they must go to the “My trips” section on the latam.com website. Likewise, it is recommended to passengers that, before going to the airport, they can find out about the status of their flight on the same page.
Latam points out that there are damages to the runway since 2022.
