In 1952, when supermarkets did not yet exist in the country and the only way to access food was to buy it in nearby stores in the market, the first Bodega La Favorita opened its doors. He did it in the Plaza de San Francisco, in the center of Quito, and shortly after he moved to Calle Sucre 370.
What began as a small Wright family venture, over the years became the largest family in the country, one that now has more than 21,000 employees, 13,000 suppliers, 18,000 shareholders.
In 1976 it became the first company to open its capital to the public and in 1979 it began its expansion with the opening of a store in the Policentro Shopping Center in Guayaquil.
Currently, Corporación Favorita has a presence in six South American countries with 200 supermarkets, 300 shops, 14 shopping centers, 16 industrial plants and 10 distribution centers.
In addition, it has established itself as one of the companies that generates the most direct and indirect jobs in the country, exceeding 310,000.

Commitment to the planet: recycling contest
Favorita Corporation promoted the first National Recycling Contest among employees and their families to generate the culture and habit of recycling. A commitment to sustainability that demonstrates its commitment to seek economic, social and environmental balance.

Favorita Corporation joins efforts to support the victims of La Gasca and La Comuna
Favorita Corporation, through Favorita Foundation, supported the rescue and recovery process of the La Gasca sector in Quito. They delivered shovels, boots and rain ponchos to emergency response entities, as well as food and drinks for the brigades. In addition, the company, thanks to donations from its customers and together with its Raise your Hand corporate volunteers, delivered more than 2,000 food, cleaning and pet food kits, which benefited 500 people directly affected by the flood. Since the emergency, the Reemprende La Gasca program has been promoted together with the AEI for the economic reactivation of the sector.

Favorita Corporation held its Annual Shareholders Meeting and presented its 2021 Report with the results of its business management. The annual report highlights the financial strength and positioning of the Corporation both nationally and internationally. In 2021 alone, the company generated employment for more than 21,000 people, worked with 13,000 suppliers, and had the support of 18,000 shareholders.

Favorita Corporation is part of the Pact for Inclusive Recycling
Corporación Favorita and its subsidiary GIRA signed the Pact for Inclusive Recycling in the circular economy, a space that promotes cohesion between grassroots recyclers and the industry through training. Favorita Corporation recycles 100% of the flexible plastic derived from its operations and 63% of supermarket waste.

Supermaxi and Megamaxi present “Maxi Anniversary”
The super promotion that celebrated the 70th anniversary of the company raffled 70 cars, 70 cell phones and 7 daily purchase orders of $100. Through a daily raffle, its customers won a Mazda CX-3 and learned about the company’s trajectory over the years.

New sustainable premises
Throughout the year, Supermaxi, Akí, Gran Akí, Super Akí and Titán stores were inaugurated, all built with their relationship with the environment in mind. By 2026, 45 stores nationwide will have LEED certification, ensuring leadership in energy and environmentally friendly design.
