National oil production reached 40,538 barrels of oil per day (BPD) in 2022, the Peruvian Hydrocarbons Society reported.
According to information from Perupetro, this result is slightly higher than what was obtained at the end of 2021 (38,391 BPD), “but it does not exceed the expectations of the sector.”
The business union attributed this lax result to the conflicts in the jungle zone of our country, a region where more than half of the oil production is generated.
“The Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), the only transport infrastructure in this area, which has suffered 14 attacks with more than 50 intentional cuts in the last year -affecting the output of crude from the jungle to the coast-, in addition to the continuous Threats to the oil lots led to a decrease in production,” he asserted.
The SPH considers that the situation that the national hydrocarbons industry is going through continues to be critical.
“Currently, and despite having potential hydrocarbon reserves, only 25% of the fuels consumed by the country’s economic activities are produced, the rest must be imported for an annual value of at least US$ 6,000 million, equivalent to more than 10% of the public budget 2023″, he adds.
In this sense, the organization stated that it is urgent to take measures to guarantee the continuity of hydrocarbon exploration and production projects.
Between January and November 2022, the oil and gas canon payment was just over US$944 million, distributed as follows: US$696.2 million for Cusco, US$52.6 million for Loreto, US$15 .5 million for Ucayali, US$ 5.8 million for Puerto Inca, US$ 139.4 million for Piura, and US$ 34.9 million for Tumbes.
