The organization has begun to monitor the prices of more than 2,500 products to control their real evolution since a month before the celebration of Black Friday. In addition, it advises consumers to be wary of flashy discount ads.
The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has warned that last year prices rose 2.6% on average during the ‘Black Friday‘, as reported in a statement.
In this way, the organization has already begun to monitor the prices of more than 2,500 products in more than 60 establishments to control their real evolution from a month before the celebration of Black Friday, to verify the number of offers and their amount and to report possible abuses.
The OCU, which has been monitoring the prices of shops for six years, has indicated that discounts are not majority and that some stores even increase their prices in those days.
Thus, in 2020, and despite the advertising campaigns that announced great discounts, during Black Week only 19% of the products fell in price, compared to 28% that increased prices.
In some stores, more than half of the products tracked during the week of Black Friday were more expensive than in previous weeks, as in Worten (51%), Fnac (52%), MirĂ³ (66%) or Web Appliances (73%).
Headphones, toasters and mobile phones were the categories in which a greater percentage of products that decreased in price was detected, although the percentage of those that increased was always higher.
The most notable discounts were found in wearable devices and portable speakers, while those that experienced the most increases were printers, ovens and mobiles.
In this way, the OCU recommends consumers be wary of ads with flashy discounts And remember that in any promotion the original price must be indicated together with the discount, the percentage of the discount or both.
The organization also recalled that the law does not allow defective products to be sold discounted, it must be indicated that they are balances or that they have some defect. In any case, if they were purchased online, the term to return the product is 14 days, and it has a two-year guarantee.
