Cajamarca Carnival 2023: hotel capacity at the limit due to high tourist demand

Cajamarca Carnival 2023. The so-called “happiest party in Peru” was confirmed for this year and it is expected that, after two years of suspension due to a pandemic, it will be one of the best editions. The central dates, which begin with the triumphal entry of the no carnavalón o Rey Momo, will take place between February 18 and 22.

The return of this important popular festival has captured the attention of local, national and foreign tourists. In this line, the hotel capacity of the capital is almost at the limit, between 70% and 80%according to the head of Tourism of the Regional Government of Cajamarca, Edgar Abanto.

“Yesterday (Sunday 8) I had a conversation with the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Related (Now) Cajamarca, which indicates that for the dates of the carnival hotel reservations are confirmed at 70% and 80%”, the official told the regional press.

For his part, José Rojas Villar, from Ahora, maintained that employability would reach 90% in cajamarca. “As for the formal ones, we are talking about a average of 11,000 to 15,000 beds, but the projection is greater than it. Work is underway to see what somewhat formal services could be enabled or spaces or houses to meet these tourists, ”she said.

In 2020, the last face-to-face celebration, more than 20,000 people registered who enjoyed the carnivalso for this year the expectation is greater. “The mayor gave a figure of 60,000 tourists, but it would be very high, a demand that we could not cover, but we could work for a capacity of 20,000 and 30,000 tourists”, added Rojas.
