In light of the ongoing conflict between workers’ organizations over the appointment of the members’ member in the Board of Directors of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS), representatives of the Unitary Front of Workers (FUT) held a private meeting with business unions where they discussed that struggle and decided to support the spokesperson for the employers, María de los Ángeles Rodríguez, who consulted the State Attorney’s Office about a legal solution.
Rodríguez managed to be qualified by the Superintendency of Banks based on executive decree 571 issued by the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, on October 3, which sought to specify the replacement of the members who had been in office for more than ten years, although its period by rule is only four years.

The request for protection action with a precautionary measure presented by German Oña Mateus, representative of the workers of the Municipality of Mejía, was made on December 23 and was accepted by the authority.
On Wednesday, December 28, Gómez tried to assume the vocals. However, the reform to the IESS Law is also in force, which provides that the current member, Luis Clavijo, must remain in extended functions until a replacement is appointed after a process organized by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
In this regard, Arellano indicated that the Prosecutor must explain the transitory, but warned that there is also a precautionary measure that prevents Clavijo from acting.
For his part, Gómez also does not recognize the validity of the reform that would keep Clavijo in office and filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office for non-compliance with the decision of judge Quevedo and asked that the representative of the employers and the president be investigated. of the Board of Directors of the IESS, Alfredo Ortega. “That they investigate the criminal offense that is typified in the Comprehensive Criminal Code for the crime of failing to comply with an order of a competent authority that is punishable by 1 to 3 years in prison,” said the president of the CUT.
