Nketiah doubles Arsenal win to face City in FA Cup next round

This Monday, the Arsenal beat Oxford United 3-0, for the third round of the FA Cup. With the result, Londoners advanced to the next stage of the competition, in which they face Manchester City.

In the next round of the English Championship, Mikel Arteta’s charges face Tottenham, this Sunday. The ball will roll at 1:30 pm (Brasília time), at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The team is in first place in the Premier League, with 44 points, five ahead of vice-leader City.

On the other side, Oxford United plays against Fleetwood, this Saturday, at 12h, at Highbury Stadium. At the moment, the team is in the 15th position of the third division of English football.

The game

At the start of the match, Arsenal worked the ball, but could not find space to endanger Edward McGinty’s goal. In the 24th minute, Cameron Brannagan finished, but the Londoners’ defense blocked it.

Just halfway through the first half, Mikel Arteta’s charges created a goal-scoring opportunity. Albert Sambi Lokonga received from Gabriel Martinelli and kicked over the opposing defender. Shortly afterwards, Eddie Nketiah spurned the Premier League leaders’ best chance of the match.

Early in the second half, Arsenal were close to opening the scoring. Bukayo Saka cut and finished low, but the Oxford United defender prevented the goal from the Englishman. As in the first half, Arteta’s men continued to find it difficult to break through the opponent’s boom.

At 17 minutes of the second half, the Londoners finally took the scoreboard to zero. After corner kick, Mohamed Elneny headed to the bottom of the net. A short time later, Nketiah dribbled past the goalkeeper and had the only job of pushing for the goal.

With the advantage on the scoreboard, Oxford United could not achieve the same defensive efficiency. Thus, Nketiah scored his second goal in the match. At the end of the match, Emile Smith Rowe almost turned the triumph into a rout.
