Madre de Dios: Proinversion reactivates tender for the Puerto Maldonado WWTP

Proinvestment confirmed the reactivation of the bidding process for the US$88 million WWTP Puerto Maldonado sanitation project, which will benefit more than 100,000 residents of Puerto Maldonado (Madre de Dios).

For this purpose, it modified the final version of the concession contract and the Tender Bases, opening the possibility for new bidders to participate; to date, the project has four pre-qualified bidders. According to the Bases, interested bidders may comment and submit their suggestions until January 30, for which they must first register as participants.

Interested new investors may submit their documents to prequalify as a bidder until February 10, 2023.

The Puerto Maldonado WWTP project, which will be executed through the Public-Private Partnership (APP) mechanism, is a priority for Proinversión and the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation.

It includes the installation of home connections and secondary networks in areas of the city that do not have sanitary sewerage service; It includes the construction of primary sewerage networks (matrix), pumping chambers (with their respective impulsion lines) and the wastewater treatment plant (PTAR).

The executive director of Proinversión, José A. Salardi, mentioned that the PPP will ensure the sustainability of the service during the concession contract period, allowing proper operation and maintenance of the primary collection system and wastewater treatment, with high quality standards. , avoiding the contamination of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, and thus improve the health, environment and quality of life of the beneficiary families.

WWTP Puerto Maldonado: scope

The estimated investment in works amounts to US$ 88 million (including VAT), and the concession term is 22 years. The Peruvian State, through the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), will cover 100% of the investment payment, while the operation and maintenance component will be covered by the fee paid by users to EMAPAT. The award of the project is scheduled for May 2023.

The Puerto Maldonado WWTP project will be complemented by the other projects of the Ministry of Housing (Storm Drainage project and the Large Cities water and sanitation program) that will be executed through public works, thus covering 95% of drinking water services. and sewerage, 100% wastewater treatment and 100% storm drainage from the city of Puerto Maldonado.
