The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) reported that the accumulated investment between January and November 2022 was US$4,615 million, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period in 2021, when US$4,471 million was reached.
Through the Mining Statistical Bulletin (BEM), Minem reported that investments in the sector in the eleventh month totaled US$467 million, an increase of 7.8% compared to the previous month, when it reached US$434 million.
In this way, mining in Peru recorded the highest investment figure executed in the penultimate month of 2022, but registered a decrease of 2.1% compared to what was obtained in November of the previous year, when it occupied US$478 million.
In terms of performance by company, the board is led by Anglo American (US$964 million), with a 20.9% share. It is followed by Antamina (US$394 million) with 8.5%; Yanacocha (US$332 million) with 7.2%; and Southern Peru (US$283 million) with 6.1%. The four occupy 42.7% of the mining investment executed nationwide.
The categories that achieved the best performance were ‘Exploration’ and ‘Development and Preparation’. The first registered US$43 million, an increase of 18.5% compared to the previous month (US$36 million), and an increase of 31.8% compared to what was reported in November 2021 (US$32 million).
For its part, the ‘Development and Preparation’ category contributed US$105 million, a month-on-month increase of 32.8%. Likewise, it registered an exponential increase of 99.9% in reference to the same month of the previous year (US$53 million).
At the regional level, Moquegua remained in first place in investments with 1,114 million dollars, representing 24.1% of the total. In second and third position were Cajamarca (US$443 million) and Áncash (US$436 million), with shares of 9.6% and 9.5%, respectively. In the period from January to November 2022, the three regions represented 43.2% of the total investment executed nationwide.
