National electricity production grew 5.6% in November 2022

The electric power production nationwide in November 2022 it reached 5,085 gigawatts hour (GWh), which meant an increase of 5.6% compared to the same month of 2021, reported the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

through the General Directorate of Electricityspecified that this result includes Isolated Systems and the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN). In detail, according to the report called “Main indicators of the electricity sector at the national level”, of the total registered, 4,956 GWh (97%) was generated for the electricity market and 129 GWh (3%) was for own use, that is, what was required by industrial companies (sugar, oil, mining, among others).

The Minem said that the increase in electricity production is sustained, mainly, in the economic reactivation of the various industries that operate at the national level, and that have been progressively overcoming the difficult situation they went through due to the COVID-19 pandemic, During the past two years.

Regarding the source of electricity generation, the report states that hydroelectric plants produced 1,856 GWh, that is, 26% less than what was generated in November 2021, due to the low flow of the rivers at this time of year. Regarding the thermal units that use natural gas, they registered 2,868 GWh, that is, 47% more than what was produced in the same period last year.

Renewable energy production decreased

Regarding the generation with non-conventional renewable energy resources (RER) (solar, wind, bagasse and biogas), in November of last year a production of 272 GWh was registered, that is, 7% less than the same month of 2021.

“This amount of energy represents 5.3% of national production during the period analyzed,” said the Minem.
