Osinergmin: electricity rates will not show variation in January 2023

The Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) reported that as of today, January 4, 2023, the electricity rates of the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) will remain unchanged with respect to the month of December 2022.

It should be noted that, last month, the agency indicated that electricity rates lowered the price to 0.41% for home users and 0.15% for commercial and industrial users, being one of the few de-escalated in that year.

“In compliance with the provisions of the regulations on updating electricity rates, Osinergmin has carried out the corresponding monthly review,” said the institution.

However, for the companies Electro Oriente, Electro Puno, Electro Sur Este, Electro Ucayali and Electrocentro, electricity rates will be reduced on average by -0.14% for home users, due to the application of the Residential Electricity Rate Compensation Mechanism (MCTER), which mainly benefits home users in urban-rural and rural areas of the country.

It must be specified that, in accordance with the law, electricity rates are reviewed by Osinergmin every month, based on update formulas and values of indicators such as the Wholesale Price Index (IPM), the exchange rate, the price of natural gas, fuel prices, copper and aluminum prices; as well as the contracts signed between generation and distribution companies to provide electricity to users.
