This Thursday, a group of mining workers from Buenaventura, specifically from the Uchucchacua mine, held a sit-in at the offices of said company and at the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).
This measure, according to information from the Peruvian Mining Federation, was taken as a result of the collective layoff applied by the mining company to its workforce, thus harming more than 2,000 families.
It is worth emphasizing that a few weeks ago, the Buenaventura company warned that they were going to temporarily suspend mineral exploitation and processing activities at the Uchucchacua Mining Unit, located in Oyón (Lima region), due to “the difficult situation that has been going through for a long time. long ago caused by low ore grade, very narrow veins and high operating costs ”.
From the Mining Federation of Peru, they demand that Minem solve this problem and ensure decent work.
