Salaries of bosses decreased by 1.1% in November, and applications of women to jobs also fell

The year is ending and by 2023 the Unified Basic Salary (SBU) will increase by $25 and reach $450. However, how is the salary market currently behaving?

According to a November 2022 labor market report from multitrabajos.com, the average Ecuadorian salary rose 0.5% compared to the previous month and stands at $804 per month. In addition, for senior positions, salaries have increased by 0.1%; those of the juniors, 0.5%; and the salaries of bosses have decreased by 1.1%.

Multitrabajos.com is an online employment portal from Ecuador. It currently offers more than 6,700 job offers and receives more than 2.5 million visits per month.

According to the study, the median required salary is now $1,313 for managers and supervisors, $807 for seniors, and $512 for juniors.

In the boss segment, the medical position receives the highest salary, averaging $1,835, a difference of $522 from the average salary for their position.

In senior positions, the project leader area earns $1,228, a big difference from the average of $807. But, as a position, technologies and systems have the highest median salary, and production is the area with the most dispersion.

Lastly, in junior positions, electrical and electronic engineers earn $733; while, for comparison, the average is $512 per month. However, as in the previous case, it was found that the junior position of technologies and systems has the highest average required salary, of $573; while the production area has the greatest salary dispersion.

Apart from the increase in the average salary, according to multitrabajos.com, the salary requirement for men is 6.6% higher than that of women, standing at $829 per month, while for women it is $778. This goes from the hand of the decrease in applications by the female gender in the workplace. Currently, 62% of applicants are men and only 38% are women; of these, 45% are in junior positions and 31% in managerial positions.

Government raises basic salary to $450 by 2023

With the data in this report, it can be seen how the wage gap increases with the seniority position: in junior positions there is a difference of 0.7%; in seniors, 6.3%; and in managerial positions, a contrast of 11.8%.
