Inflation: which products increased their prices the most in Metropolitan Lima during 2022?

The annualized inflation of Metropolitan Lima closed 2022 at 8.46%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). In addition, during the last month of 2022, December, the National Consumer Price Index rose by 0.66%, while the Metropolitan Lima Consumer Price Index increased by 0.79%.

The annual advance was led, mainly, by the rise in prices in the food and non-alcoholic beverage segments, which increased by 15.22% in the last 12 months.

For its part, the transportation sector presented an increase of 10.03%; while recreation and culture, 6.12%; and restaurants and hotels, 9.81%. Finally, miscellaneous goods and services increased their costs by 6.84%.

What foods rose the most in price during 2022?

Among the main foods that increased their costs the most from January to December is the huayro potato with an advance of 135.29%, followed by the yellow potato (130.39%), the white potato (76.72%), the passion fruit (67.7%), colored potato (66.67%), lemon (65.03%), long pasta dry noodles (56.71%) and, finally, chicken eggs (47.04%).

What foods and services fell in price in 2022?

Among foods, the biggest decrease in the 12 months occurred in Chinese onion, which fell by -16.54%, followed by horse mackerel (-9.36%) and mackerel (-5.38%).

On the other hand, the service that presented the most decline was that of liquefied petroleum gas for vehicles (lpgv), which fell by -22.70%. It is followed by national air tickets, which lowered their costs by -21.32%, residential natural gas (-10.37%), bottled domestic gas (-9.20%) and mobile telephone equipment (-5, 38%).
