Aburto shows his anger because he has not been informed of the intergovernmental meeting on the TAV

While the mayor of Bilbao was in Madrid to talk about the TAV, the counselor Iñaki Arriola and the Minister of Transport have met in Vitoria, where they have proposed establishing a provisional stop of the TAV in Basauri, until the underground entrance to the Biscayan capital.

The mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, has shown this Thursday its “surprise and disappointment” why the Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport, Iñaki Arriola, I did not inform you of the meeting that he has maintained with the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, after which it has been confirmed that the Ministry intends build a temporary halt in Basauri, until the underground entrance of the TAV to the capital of Biscay is built.

Aburto, who today has met in Madrid the Secretary of State for Mobility, Transport and Urban Agenda, Isabel Pardo de Vera, to talk about this issue, has confirmed that “the underground entry” of the High Speed Train to Bilbao is guaranteed , and the extension of the entrustment to the Basque Government in the execution of the works.

In statements after the meeting, the mayor of the Biscayan capital has shown his “surprise and disappointment” at the meeting that Raquel Sánchez and Iñaki Arriola have held in Vitoria-Gasteiz. In a subsequent appearance, both have announced that the Ministry intends to build a temporary halt in Basauri, with a commuter train transfer to Abando, as a “provisional solution” for the arrival of the TAV to Bizkaia.

Juan Mari Aburto has assured that “he had no news” of the meeting Raquel Sánchez and Iñaki Arriola. In addition, he is aware that neither the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gorka Urtaran, nor that of Basauri, Asier Iragorri, they knew him. “The model of working is not an issue that must be clearly inter-institutional”, has warned.

The councilor of Bilbao has contrasted this position with the one he has maintained with the Minister of Transport, to whom he has informed of the meeting that he was going to hold today in Madrid with Pardo de Vera. In addition, he invited someone from his team to accompany him “to go together” the Basque Government and the Bilbao City Council.

After this reflection, Aburto has assured that the interview he has had with the Secretary of State has been “very positive” and has highlighted “the great willingness” of this “to work together, to reach agreements and to advance, without any doubt, in that the High Speed Train reaches Bilbao as soon as possible”.

“It is clear, in any case, that the underground station project in Abando is the project for which both the Ministry and the Bilbao City Council are committed. The entire project to be tendered by the Ministry will be the one that includes the underground entrance to Bilbao to the Abando station, which will also be buried “, he added.
