SRI announces tax control in relation to reported sales

The Internal Revenue Service (SRI) will apply a new tax control mechanism with respect to income tax (IR). The entity announced that it will verify that the payment of this tax at the end of fiscal year 2022 is consistent with the increase in sales of the economic sector to which the taxpayers correspond.

From January to October 2022, sales in Ecuador reached a historic figure of $179,000 millionwhich shows a growth of around $19,000 million in relation to the same period in 2021. This figure reveals the economic recovery of the country.

From 20 sectors of the economy, 19 registered growth in sales, such as commerce, manufacturing, mining and quarrying, agriculture, transport and storage, professional, financial and insurance activities, construction, health activities, electricity supply, services, administrative services, tourism, real estate, education, public administration, drinking water and arts .

Regarding trade, one of the activities that has generated the most sales has been the automobile sector. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Pablo Arosemena, He highlighted the fact on his social networks. He said that he has there has been a record car sales in eleven years, comparing the period from January to November since 2011. Arosemena pointed out that they sold 128,523 cars between January and November 2022. This figure is more than 7,000 units higher than 2019, the pre-pandemic year. In 2011, a sale of 127,542 units had been registered, reported the minister, based on data from the Association of Automotive Companies of Ecuador.

The SRI has announced that it will seek to improve tax collection through more exhaustive controls and new tools. On these same days, the Internal Revenue entity announced, for example, the application of a tax PCR. This is a quick control plan, which is possible thanks to the information that has been provided to Ecuador by several countries worldwide and that allows it to know the bank accounts abroad of residents in the country.

Thus, these days the SRI reported that soccer players, assembly members, businessmen and natural persons with important assets abroad were part of the first tax PCR. Following these revisions, an additional $4.5 million had been raised. The PCR will continue in December and in 2023.

The SRI reminded citizens that, in addition to applying its control mechanisms, the institution has information that comes from national and international sources to verify that taxpayers declare what corresponds to them and pay everything they must pay. (YO)
