The partners of the Ulma Group have decided leave the Mondragón Corporation in an extraordinary assembly held this morning. The decision has been adopted with 80.52% of the votes in favour.
“The 2,789 members that make up the nine Ulma cooperatives have reaffirmed, through their vote at the assembly held in Illumbe (San Sebastián), their desire to replace their relationship with Mondragon Corporación Cooperativa, Civil Society with a new model”, as reported the Gipuzkoan company in a statement.
At the same time, they have approved instructing the Governing Council of Ulma to “try to promote future collaborations with Mondragón for the development of the cooperative movement, as well as promoting the necessary regulatory development that will allow the contributions made up to now to the funds managed by the Mondragón Foundation to continue to be used for the development of the cooperative movement”.
Lander Díaz de Gereñu, director of Grupo Ulma, has affirmed that “the members decide, with their vote, which path the cooperative follows and today we have received a clear mandate”.
“We are part of the success model that the Basque cooperative model demonstrates. We will always defend and protect its values. We believe that the best way to do it is to turn Ulma into a Strong Industrial Cooperative Group”, he pointed out.
As for Mondragón, he has assured that they are willing to “work together on all actions that benefit the successful model that we all represent.”
Orona’s partners have also held an extraordinary assembly to decide whether or not to leave the Mondragon Corporation, but they have not yet made their decision known.
The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia, highlighted this morning, before knowing the result of the vote by the members of Orona and Ulma, that it is an “important day” and that there is to respect the decision made by the partners.
