The Vice President of the Government, Nadia Calviño, has assured this Friday that the general subsidy of 20 cents per liter of fuel is a “controversial” measure, and has ratified that the Executive seeks to maintain it only “for some economic sectors”.

This was explained by the Minister of Economic Affairs, adding that the discount on fuel “has a very important fiscal impact and does not benefit the most vulnerable classes”, but only those who “have a car”, and also does not encourage savings in fuel.

The minister has emphasized the uncertainty of the Government about the decisions they will make regarding fuel aid: “I cannot say in a totally exhaustive way that December 31 will be the last day with the subsidy of 20 cents for all”. However, she has commented that The Government will wait until the end of the year to make a decision and see how the prices of diesel and gasoline behave.

Likewise, Calviño has insisted that the Government weigh “maintain” aid only for those sectors for which it is “necessary”. Specifically, he has admitted that the Government’s idea is to “focus” this aid on sectors such as transport, agriculture, livestock or fishing, among others.
