More than 7,000 dry shark fins, the sale of which is prohibited, they were seized by the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) when they were irregularly transferred in a heavy-duty truck bound for Lima.
The cargo was found when the vehicle from Chiclayo bound for the capital intervened, which was carrying 360 sacks containing 7,391 dry shark fins in the back.
The merchandise lacked documents proving its legal origin. When they went to the intervention area, they confirmed the finding.
Among the fins seized were species such as mobula mobular (mantas) and blue shark finswhose landing or transshipment is prohibited, in accordance with Produce Supreme Decree 021-2016 and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, known as Cites.
It’s known that This type of marine species is in high demand in Asian markets, so it is presumed that it could be a mafia that tried to import them.
The operation was carried out by the Operational Group of the Chiclayo Customs Administration and Internal Taxation of the Mocupe Control Post, where the vehicle was intervened
The Sunat reported that it will continue with its controls by land, air, sea and river to prevent the traffic of protected fauna and flora, as well as restricted merchandise, promoting formalization.
