Alex Contreras was sworn in this Saturday as the new head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) for the government of Dina Boluarte.
It is worth noting that Contreras Miranda has held the position of Deputy Minister of Economy since August 2021, when Pedro Francke headed the MEF with the arrival of Pedro Castillo to the presidency.
Contreras is an economic engineer from the National Engineering University of Peru (UNI), and a Master of Arts in Policy Economics from Williams College in the United States, and was previously director general of the General Directorate of Macroeconomic Policy and Fiscal Decentralization of the MEF.
He also has professional experience at the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).
“The best of wishes for Alex (Contreras) at the head of the MEF, technical and honest. Congratulations,” wrote former Economy Minister Kurt Burneo.
