The Basque economy slows down its growth as GDP rises by 3.8%


It grew by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter and employment by 0.3%, with more than 19,500 jobs created.

The Basque economy has slowed down its growth more than expected in the third quarter of the year since finally the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 3.8% in year-on-year terms, one tenth less than estimated in the Advance of the quarterly Accounts of Eustat on October 17.

In addition, according to data published this Friday by Eustat, employment, measured in terms of full-time equivalent jobs, increased by 0.3% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of the year, representing growth in year-on-year terms of 2 0.0%, that is, a total of 19,513 net jobs more than in the third quarter of 2021.

Regarding the evolution of the GDP by Historical Territories, in the third quarter of 2022 Gipuzkoa presented an interannual growth of 3.5% and Álava and Bizkaia of 3.9%.

The interannual growth estimated in the third quarter of the GDP of the Basque Country is above that estimated in the United States economy (1.8%), in the Euro Zone (2.1%) and in the European Union as a whole ( 2.4%).

The estimation of the interannual growth of the Spanish economy, for its part, also stands at 3.8% in the Advance of the quarterly National Accounts of Spain of October 28.
