The coverage of the fixed internet service reached 3,217,602 connections in September 2022, which represented an advance of 5.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, reported the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel).
According to the PUNKU computer portal, which collects the information reported by the operating companies to Osiptel and not from surveys, as has been reported in recent days, an increase of 156,000 connections has been recorded in the last twelve months.
According to the entity, the growth of the fixed internet service was driven by a greater number of connections in the residential segment, dedicated to the home, which added 2 million 989,557 connections in the month of September, increasing by 6.1% compared to the same month. of 2021 and with what they represented 92.9% of the total connections.
In contrast, the commercial segment fell 5.8% in the analyzed period to 228,045 connections, equivalent to a 7.1% share.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, fixed internet connections have increased steadily, which reaffirms the importance of this service so that more Peruvian households are connected and cover their current consumption habits such as study, work and entertainment” , indicated the executive president of Osiptel, Rafael Muente Schwarz.
In the last ten years, connections to the fixed internet service registered an increase of 130.2%, considering that in September 2012 there were 1,397,663 connections in the country.
Participation by operating company
The Entel Group and Telefónica del Perú are the companies that have reduced their participation the most in the last twelve months, which continues to be taken advantage of by the group made up of Wi-net + Optical Technologies, by the company Wow and by the group made up of the companies Fiberlux, Fiberlux Tech and Fiberline, which have increased their participation by 4.6%, 2.1% and 0.7%, respectively, according to Osiptel’s Office of Regulatory Policies and Competition.

Thus, Telefónica del Perú continued to lead the market for access to fixed internet service with a 54.5% share, followed by Claro (26.7%), the Wi-NET group of companies and Optical Technologies (7, 9%), the Entel group (2.9%). It is followed by Wow (2.6%), the group made up of the companies Fiberlux, Fiberlux Tech and Fiberline (1.0%) and Hughes (0.9%).
