For food, education, supplies and notebooks, inflation reached 0.36% in September 2022

The price of food and the start of classes in the Sierra once again mark a peak in inflation that in September reached 0.36%, a percentage similar to that of 2018 and well above those registered in the last three years in that same month.

In September 2018, inflation was 0.39%; in 2019 it fell to -0.01%; for 2020 of the pandemic it was -0.16% and in 2021 it reached 0.02%.

The technical report of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) indicates that the items of food and non-alcoholic beverages, education and recreation and culture are the ones that had the most incidence last month.

Thus, lemon, tree tomato, lettuce, kidney tomato, chicken eggs, orange, pasteurized liquid milk, bread, chicken pieces and white onion are the ten foods with the greatest variation.

While in education, the costs of basic general education, undergraduate university, baccalaureate, higher basic education, initial education, language courses and distance baccalaureate weighed.

And the products with the highest incidence in recreation and culture were food prepared for pets, textbooks for all educational levels, school supplies, data storage devices, desktop computers, notebooks, pens, repair of electronic equipment, flowers and television.

But it was in the Sierra where the generalized rise in prices was most felt, since in this region the school period began. “When analyzing the structure of the monthly price variation by region, it can be seen that the cities of the Sierra showed higher monthly variations than the cities of the Coast”, explains the INEC. These variations in the Sierra were on average 0.55%, while in the Coast it was 0.18%.

The basic family basket in September 2022 cost $756.90, two dollars more than the previous month. The vital basket had a cost of $534.46, almost three dollars more than in August.

Accumulated inflation in the nine months of the year is 3.46% and annual inflation is 4.12%, according to official data from INEC. (YO)
