SNI: La Libertad is the third region with the highest level of poverty in the North Macroregion

The National Society of Industries (SNI) indicated that about 27% of the inhabitants of La Libertad are in monetary povertywhich makes them the third region with the highest level within the North Macroregion, where it affects 25.5% of the population on average.

“La Libertad is a region with tremendous potential in industries that are intensive in job creation; however, we see that it is the third region with the highest poverty in the North Macroregion and almost double that of Lambayeque, which has 14%”, said engineer Jesús Salazar Nishi, president of the SNI.

In detail, the monthly income of a formal worker in La Libertad is located at S/ 2,216, well below the average of the North Macroregion (S/ 2,450). It is even less than nearby regions such as Lambayeque (S/ 2,233), Piura (S/ 2,279), San Martín (S/ 2,804) and Áncash (S/ 2,467).

Regarding labor informality in Freedom, although this reaches 73.3%, below the national average (76.8%), it is located almost 10 points above Lima (63.4%), and several points higher than other large regions of the country such as Arequipa (69.1%) or Ica (69.1%). That is, a high presence of job without benefits such as vacations or social security.

How to reduce monetary poverty in the north?

Salazar Nishi, president of the SNI indicated that the development of projects such as Chavimochic III It is crucial, since it will allow the generation of formal employment and various productive chains.

“We hope that the works of the third stage can finally start because agro-export is one of the biggest engines in the north of the country,” said the union leader, who added that Puyango-Tumbes, Chinecas and the expansion of Olmos are other of the essential projects to ensure that macro-regional agriculture continues to grow.

On the mining side, Salazar Nishi highlighted the enormous potential of Northern Mining Belt for the creation of clusters, for which he pointed out that it is necessary to develop the identified projects and, in addition, correlate them with logistics integration projects such as the Norandino Train and the consolidation of ports for the shipment of minerals.
