Confiep about the Antamina case: “The truce is welcome”

The president of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Trust), Óscar Caipo, welcomed the suspension of the protests and blockades in the Antamina mining corridor carried out by the community of Aquia (Áncash), which generated a strike since last October 24.

“The truce is welcome, I think it was necessary because we were reaching levels of conflict in various parts of the country and not only in the mining sector,” said the business leader in dialogue with the Face to Face program.

Along the same lines, the leader considered that he was “concerned” by the social conflict and its consequences, such as vandalism, the destruction of private property and the endangerment of company workers.

Likewise, he criticized the Executive’s attitude towards the events, stating that he had sided with the community members.

“Another thing that was worrying was the response of the Executive branch that, practically, in the declarations of the premier and the Minister of Justice they normalized and biased (with the protest) or that they were even weaving a conspiracy from the business sector, something that we definitely rejected ”, he indicated.

At another time, Caipo stated that he had spoken about the case with Antamina, who maintained that from Aquia “they were unaware of a prior agreement.”

“Now that there is a truce, we are going to let the dialogue with the Government now be at the table between the community and the company, with the information and documentation and the facts that lead them to draw conclusions,” he said.
