Spanish GDP accelerates its growth in the second quarter to 1.1%


State demand has come to lead economic growth, mainly due to the strong recovery in household consumption (which went from negative growth to growth of 3.2%) and the maintenance of the dynamism of investments.

The Spanish economy accelerated its quarterly growth between april and juneto place it at 1.1%, compared to 0.2% in the previous quarter, according to the advance of National Accounts data published this Friday by the Statistics National Institute (INE).

In the second quarter, state demand has come to lead economic growth, mainly due to the strong recovery in household consumption (which went from negative growth to 3.2% growth) and the maintenance of the investment dynamism.

The quarterly growth of GDP, the fifth in a row, has been seven tenths above that forecast by the Bank of Spain, which had projected in its latest forecasts an advance of 0.4% for the second quarter.

In year-on-year terms, the change in Gross Domestic Product is 6.3%a rate similar to that of the first quarter of 2022, according to the INE.
