The paddy rice production, in May 2022, it reached 517,956 tons and increased by 54.7% at the national level, compared to the same month of the previous year (334,719 tons), as reported by the Departmental Office of Piura of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
They also pointed out that this positive behavior was explained by the higher harvested areas in the main producing departments such as La Libertad (589.2%), Lambayeque (110.0%), Cajamarca (25.4%) and San Martín (5.8%), which together contributed 82.9% of the national total produced. Also, favorable results were given in the departments of Ucayali (115.4%), Madre de Dios (24.0%), Pasco (22.6%) and Loreto (7.4%). However, the production of this cereal decreased in Tumbes (-83.6%), Piura (-61.2%), Junín (-55.5%), Arequipa (-45.3%), Áncash (-14.1%), Cusco (-12.5%), Huánuco (-11.7%) and Amazonas (-6.8%).
