Agro Rural injects 27.7 million soles to improve guinea pig breeding

Agro Rural of the Ministry of Agrarian Development launched a project valued at more than 27.7 million soles to improve the competitiveness of producer families that are dedicated to raising guinea pigs.

According to the executive director of Agro Rural, Rogelio Huamaní Carbajal, the sectoral intervention takes place in the departments of Áncash, Apurímac, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Cusco, Lima, Moquegua and Junín in joint action with local authorities, community leaders, associations and families production companies.

He also recalled that to date there are more than 7,000 producers benefited from a total of 13,500 from the aforementioned departments. “This action is part of the process of modernization of livestock activities framed in the Second Agrarian Reform promoted by the sector,” said Huamaní.

In addition, he clarified that activities related to strengthening the technical capacities of guinea pig producers are also carried out (reproduction, health, installation of demonstration modules, management of pastures and forages for feeding guinea pigs) as well as access to the availability of breeds. improved, among others.

“Other aspects in which we are advocating is the strengthening of local organizations through associativity and business management, which will allow them to have access to local markets and others with greater competition in order for them to generate greater profitability from this important livestock activity ”, concluded Huamaní.
